My Yoga Story
Who would have thought that Ma’Sheka, the woman with degrees in Accounting and Business Administration would have been into something a freeing as yoga? I surely wouldn’t have - my collegiate and graduate careers were so structured and technical.
In 2018, my hives became unbearable. After breaking out many times, I went to the physician to get to the root of where they’d been coming from. Declaring it stress-related, they’d prescribed medicine for stress management. Yet, I had a different idea in mind. I’d recently been introduced to yoga and wanted to give that a try, a holistic approach at tackling the stress.
What started as a stress reduction method went above and beyond my expectations. Not only did the practice curb my breakouts, but it drew me in. I fell in love! I practiced for six months, then signed up at a local studio so that I could dig deeper into this tool and learn how to better share it with others.
Now, after becoming a globally recognized yoga teacher (RYT-200), I feel that I have found my true purpose. I am able to be a light through yoga, leading people to tranquility, serenity and healing. At the six or seven venues where I teach weekly, my students are introduced to Hatha, Restorative and Vinyasa Flows to begin and end their days. I’ve also been a featured practitioner at rehabilitation centers, gyms and in residential and community spaces.
I want my students to know that ANY one can come to yoga. It doesn’t matter if you don’t think you’re strong or flexible. Yoga allows you to get in tune with your body and be connected in ways you wouldn’t imagine. Come to a class, you’d be surprised what you can do!
Let’s stay connected!
